Reforestation is possible, as has been proven in Costa Rica.

As in Borneo, the forests had been felled extensively, such that in 1983 coverage was only 26%. However, through replanting and management programmes the situation has gradually improved.

In 22 years the forest cover has doubled. Much of this is harvestable hardwood, but the management in place ensures that replanting will replace any harvested trees
